Bohemian Groove Café
A creatively led restaurant, art gallery and studio.
Described by the owners as a “lifestyle art project”, this interesting and quirky property on the escarpment of the Mpumalanga Drakensberg encompasses self-catering accommodation, an art gallery, art studio and a restaurant. The Fourie family has immersed itself in creating a space where creativity is the order of the day. The restaurant has sweeping views over the Blue Swallow Reserve, and serves meals on the verandah and in the garden. The menu offers wholesome, country-style cooking with a slight German influence from the family’s heritage – think bockwurst, thick lentil soup, home-made pretzels and apfelküchen (apple cake). You can also expect the likes of lamb curry, fresh trout and LM prawns, as well pies, burgers and cakes and bakes from the deli. Local beer and gin are served, the produce is all sourced locally and the café supports the community by selling their jams, preserves, ginger beer and rusks. It’s an all-round community-led labour of love.
