This is everything you want in a local Italian trattoria – a warm, cosy atmosphere, friendly service and rib-sticking, authentically made food. Owners Matteo and Mizio take pride in producing dishes using family recipes passed down from their nonnos and nonnas, including pasta made in-house, thin-based, wood-fired pizza, and their signature Karoo lamb ragù, which is cooked overnight in the pizza oven. The lamb can be served as a pasta (in a copper pot passed down from nonna), on a pizza, or with risotto. The menu also includes a few house specials such as tagliatelle with salmon and whisky in a creamy sauce; home-made ricotta gnocchi with wild mushrooms, burrata mozzarella and toasted almonds; plus risotto with squid ink and prawns. Alternatively, opt for antipasti, salads, traditional or gourmet pizzas, meat or fish. Each dish comes with a wine recommendation, making it even easier to have an excellent meal here.

Don't leave without trying:
The Woodlands pizza – slow-roasted, free-range lamb, topped with crème fraîche.
