The original Victory Lounge on Grey Street was a Durban institution, opening in 1946 and becoming woven into the city's culinary and social fabric. When owners Billy and Kanagee Moodley served up their last mutton bunny chow and closed Victory’s doors in 2017, hordes of devoted regulars felt genuinely bereft – until now. At this Umhlanga Ridge revival, new owners have worked with quiet dedication to bring back the exact flavour of the original eatery. You’ll find authentic Durban Indian cuisine: brilliant curries, samoosas, the popular sweetmeats of the original Victory – and, of course, bunny chow. Affordable, generous and deeply satisfying, it's the kind of Durban gem that carries the weight of history and culture in every bite.
