Built on a simple but uncompromising philosophy – that everything is handmade, produced locally and designed to be eaten immediately – The Glenwood Bakery quietly raises the bar for neighbourhood bakeries everywhere. Loaves are hand-formed, slow-fermented and hearth-baked. The fridge is stocked with house-made hummus, baba ganoush, muhamarra, ready-made soup, prepared salads and more, all free of preservatives, stabilisers and colourants. The pastry section offers a daily temptation of croissants, pain au chocolat, financiers, sfogliatella and other delights to satisfy the sweetest of sweet tooths. The lunch menu runs the gamut from sandwiches, filled bagels and flatbread to hand-made pasta, hamburgers and salads. Come evening, the Morningside café opens for pasta, pizza and slow-cooked dishes, with a regularly changing menu that overdelivers on its promise of freshness and flavour.
